In 2011 Kirsty graduated with Merit from Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand with a Masters in Strategic Studies. This postgraduate qualification has given Kirsty an understanding of the the leading strategic issues within a global, regional and New Zealand context.

Her research component was an assessment of the CSCAP (Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia Pacific) Study Group on Countering the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction, and to assess whether or not it had met the objectives it had set out to achieve. This qualification has also complimented Kirsty's ability to provide strategic oversight to an organisation through the provision of formal strategic frameworks and design thinking principles.
